Boat Returning in A Rainstorm
这件作品融合了西方油画媒介与中国传统水墨画的艺术表现语言。我使用水墨的绘画方式在透明的材质表面控制油彩的痕迹和物理属性，使其形成类似于显微镜下的细胞结构的特定效果。作品中呈现出来的类似生物体的微观有机结构，结合了自然和人文的宏观景观，用抽象化的肌理来诠释具象化的山水图示。
这系列作品的灵感来源于中国传统山水画的图像和构图。显微镜下代表微观物质的细胞结构和代表宏观世界的风景在画面中融合共生。营造出一种和谐又奇妙的视觉感受。
This work integrates the artistic expression of Western oil painting media with the traditional Chinese ink painting. I used the painting technique of ink on a transparent material surface to control the traces and physical properties of the oil paint, creating an effect similar to the cellular structures seen under a microscope. The work presents micro-organic structures similar to living organisms, combining natural and cultural macroscopic landscapes, interpreting concrete landscapes through an abstract texture.
The inspiration for this series of works comes from the imagery and composition of traditional Chinese landscape paintings. Cellular structures representing the microscopic matter and landscapes representing the macroscopic world coexist and merge in the painting, creating a harmonious and wonderful visual experience.
Chenlin Cai is a visual artist lives in Philadelphia. Cai received his MFA from the Tsinghua University, China and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Cai’s works innovatively combine traditional Chinese ink painting with contemporary art expressions to create a unique visual image that fuses art and science. Cai has held several solo exhibitions in Philadelphia and New York including his 2024 solo exhibition in Philadelphia International Airport, Terminal F. The uniqueness of his artistic style has caught the eye of collectors world-wide. Such as the FMC Corporation; the Copelouzos Family Art Museum in Athens, Greece, etc. Cai was the recipient of “CoverlySmith Prize” in the Woodmere Art Museum’s 79th Juried Exhibition, Philadelphia.

This piece used the ancient and serene dragon and its spirit as a symbol of my spirituality. It looks quiet but one can feel the power of its body and mind. Deep contemplation and stillness allows the flow of time to settle. When the inner clock stands still, we are able to contemplate the past present and future. To remain unchanged in response to changes. This piece is the original before it was molded. A pair of bronze replicas are shown in combination to better represent the concept of the work.

Zhang Rongfa graduated from Luoyang Normal University in China with a BFA degree in 2013. In 2014, he entered the College of Guangxi Arts in China with the highest score nationwide for his graduate study. He graduated with the MFA degree with the best master’s thesis in the college in 2017.
During his graduate studies, Mr. Zhang was mentored by Professor Huang Gesheng, the President of Guangxi Arts University and former Vice Chairman of the China Artists Association (now serving as an advisor). He is also the fourth-generation direct descendant disciple of the renowned Chinese painter Zhang Daqian. In April 2018, he traveled to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, the capital cities of the United Arab Emirates, to participate in art exhibitions. Local art institutions and American friends collected his works.
